"Las Posadas" Las posadas means "the inns" or "the shelters" in Spanish. The religious and social celebration takes place for nine nights, from December 16 to 24. The holiday is known as Las Posadas and commemorates Joseph and Mary's journey to Bethlehem and their search for shelter prior to the birth of Christ. Las Posadas is a reenactment of this difficult journey. During December 2011 St Peter's staged its own version of Las Posadas. Members of the congregation, and the wider community, played the role of innkeepers by providing accommodation to Mary and Joseph (and their donkey) during the 23 day run-up to Christmas. During their travels Mary and Joseph visited the Christmas Tree Fetival at St Peters, and the annual Carol Service. As well as visiting many homes in the village they also visited a local farm where they had a close encounter with a very inquisitive goat! Over the next few days the visited the local hospital, the village school pantomime and the Pre-School. Accompanying Mary and Joseph was a camera for the hosts to record the event. These photographs were shown to interested congregations at the services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and appear below.
