Church Activities

Sunday Club
Sundays 9.30am

Sunday Club is for all children of Pre-School and Primary School age, and meets every Sunday during school term-time at 9.30am in the Village Hall with the exception of the first Sunday in the month, when there is a Family Service. The sessions, which last approximately 45 minutes, included craft, music, teaching time, prayer and ‘take home’ activities. The children are encouraged to attend the final 15 minutes of the service in church, where they are in time to receive a blessing at the Communion Rail during the Eucharist. Club members often take part in services, by Bible reading, singing, leading the prayers etc. Sunday Club is open to all children in Bratton Fleming and the surrounding area. The parents of the youngest children join us too and it is a privilege and a joy to share Sunday Club with them all.

SPLASH (St Peter's Loony And Stunning Helpers)
Sundays 9.30am

SPLASH is open to all young people of Senior School age and meets at 9.30am in the Village Hall each Sunday in school term time, with the exception of the first Sunday in the month. In our morning sessions we use Scripture Union 'Salt' material. We enjoy these sessions, not just because we have fun, but for all we share and learn leads us to a deeper understanding of just how much God loves us, values us and is there for us in everything. Jesus really is our friend and we are much in need. Following the 45 minute session in the Hall, we enter church to join our parents in time for us who are Confirmed to receive Communion. Those of us who are not yet Confirmed receive a blessing. The group regularly takes part in special services by performing short sketches, dramatising Bible readings, singing various hymns and songs etc. All young people in Bratton Fleming and the surrounding area are welcome to join us.

Mothers Union

The Mothers Union meets monthly, on the 2nd Wednesday in the month, in the hyome of one of the members.

Pastoral Visiting

Members of the visiting group fulfil an important service in the community by calling on the elderly and sick, especially those who may not receive many visitors. Members regularly visit people in their homes, hospital, and care homes.

These visits are enjoyed as much by the visitors as those they call on. Those called on often chat and talk of their lives and their families with everyone having a laugh and joke about their experiences of years gone by.

Open the Book

A small, growing, group from the Baptist Church and St. Peter’s have been welcomed into our local school during the past year. We tell Bible stories from the Lion Storyteller Bible, using the words from there plus we get guidance from the OTB Handbook, which also gives an introduction, a conclusion and a closing prayer. There is no shortage of volunteers from the children, when we need help with a story.   OTB was started 10 years ago in Bedford and is spreading throughout the country, in the Shirwell Team we have groups going into three local schools. It is a great outreach opportunity and good to show the children Bible stories in such an easy way.

 Monthly Market

The Monthly Market is held from 10am – 12 noon in the Village Hall on the 4th Saturday each month apart from December when it is the 2nd Saturday. There are a variety of stalls ranging from regular sellers to individuals having a 'one off' sale of items.

The Market started in 19 as a means to support local farmers and growers in the wake of the outbreak of Foot and Mouth which devistated the lives of many farmers in the county. Over the years the market has changed a little, and now features a wide range of goods offered for sale.

Monthly Lunch

Originally started by the Methodist church many years ago, the lunches continue to be held on the 2nd Monday of each month, with a choice of soup in the winter and salad in the summer. For a modest price those attending can enjoy a meal and a chat with friends and neighbours they may noot otherwise meet.

Messy Church

Messy Church is held 3 or 4 times a year, which has seen an increase in numbers attending each one.  Up to 30 children have come with their parents, grandparents or carers who have all stayed and taken part in the activities – crafts, cookery, puzzles, games, Bible story, prayer, songs and food.  Many people have worked hard to make Messy Church the success it’s become.  This is a great opportunity for those who don’t attend regular services to come to share with us in this fresh expression of Church.

The new extension and the future reordering of the church building will provide the space needed to enable this type of worship to take place with ease.

Bell Ringing

For many years St. Peter's has not had its own team of bell ringers, and has had to rely of ringers from outside the parish. This has meant that the bells have only been rung for one service per month on a regular basis.

Recent interest in bell ringing has resulted in a number of people coming forward with a desire to learn. Under the guidence of two experienced ringers weekly training sessions are now being held. It should not be too long before St. Peter's will again have its own team of ringers to call people to Sunday worship, and to ring for special occasions.
